Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration Systems

This is the most popular type of whole-home water filtration system for a reason—it effectively removes 99% of contaminants from your water, thanks to a pressurized filtration approach. This results in water that tastes and smells better, is healthier, and is safer for your family. Reverse osmosis water filters even help to reduce mineral content, which can effectively soften your water.

Ultraviolet Light Disinfection Systems

If your primary concern is bacteria, viruses, or microorganisms, a UV light disinfection system might be right for you. This is a popular choice for wells, ponds, or other water sources where this kind of contamination is more likely. Keep in mind, however, that UV filters only kill microorganisms—meaning they won’t remove chemicals, minerals, or heavy metals.

Water Conditioner or Softener Systems

You may have noticed water spots on your dishes or hard water buildup on surfaces; sometimes, this can even affect plumbing and appliances, or skin and hair. Water softeners and conditioners combat this with a process in which calcium and magnesium ions are exchanged for sodium ions within a resin tank. This removes minerals for “softer” water. Other than reducing mineral content, however, these systems will not remove contaminants and bacteria.

Why Monroe, GA Needs Quality Water Filtration

Even though Winder meets federal and state guidelines for tap water quality, there are still potential concerns with contaminants and hard water—not to mention the costs and carbon footprint associated with single-use plastic water bottles. Whole-home or business water filtration systems can help.

Concerns Over PFAs

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently reported that the tap water in several NE Georgia counties (including nearby Covington County) contains per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as Forever Chemicals. These chemicals have been linked to cancer and impaired immunity, even at low levels. Reverse osmosis is effective at removing PFAS.

Other Contaminant Concerns

As with the PFAS concerns, just because tap water has passed federal and local standards, doesn’t mean it’s 100% safe or healthy. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), Monroe tap water contains 19 contaminants, 12 exceeding EWG health guidelines. Several contaminants with the highest presence are linked to increased cancer risk.

A Great Investment

A whole-home or business water filtration system is a great long-term investment for several reasons. First, it can add value to your property as a sought-after feature. Second, you’ll save money and time buying and hauling bottled water (single-use or for coolers). Finally, water filtration can help extend the life of plumbing and appliances, protecting you from expensive repairs and replacements.

Monroe, GA Water Filtration FAQs

  • Do I need to be worried about the PFAS in Monroe water?

As mentioned before, Georgia water management authorities just disclosed to the EPA test results that reveal the presence of PFAS (“forever chemicals”) in the tap water in several NE Georgia counties. While Monroe wasn’t on the list, some surrounding counties were, and there are ongoing concerns about the pollutants becoming more prevalent in communities across the country.

PFAS are long-lasting chemicals that break down very slowly (or little at all), and they have been linked to harmful effects on animals and humans. Initial research links PFAS to fertility and developmental issues, decreased vaccine response in children, and increased risk of several types of cancer. Furthermore, the EPA doesn’t yet know just how harmful these chemicals might be—or at what levels—so they have yet to set strong standards for them.

The good news is, evidence shows that reverse osmosis filters can remove a large majority of several types of potentially harmful PFAS. Contact us today to learn more.

  • How should I choose a Monroe water filtration company?

As with many home services these days, online reviews are a key indicator of quality. First check to see what recent past customers are saying. You can even ask for direct referrals to learn more. Any water filtration company worth its salt will offer a free assessment and consultation. Take note of the service here, and how the company communicates. Are they responsive, friendly, and transparent? C&C Plumbing is one of Monroe’s most trusted water filtration companies, with hundreds of installations by our expert technicians. We even won Best Plumber of 2023 in the Athens Banner-Herald 2023 Community Choice Awards! Call us today to experience the C&C difference.

  • Reverse osmosis water filtering vs water softening—which is better?

The choice between a reverse osmosis water filtration system and a water softening system will depend completely on your specific concerns. If you're primarily concerned with removing a broad spectrum of contaminants (minerals, heavy metals, chemicals, etc.) for drinking or cooking purposes, reverse osmosis is your best bet. If your main issue is that hard water is causing scale buildup, or issues with skin, hair, appliances, or plumbing, a water softener is the preferred choice. In some cases, a combination of both systems may be beneficial. C&C experts can come out for a free assessment—testing your water and listening to your specific concerns to make the best recommendation. Contact us today to learn more.
